As the full force of Storm Doris subsides, Ruddington residents and businesses are checking and repairing the damage in her wake.
Fences and trees were blown over, garden furniture tossed between properties, and wheelie bins upturned. Thankfully there are no reports of anyone getting hurt locally.
However things could have been very much worse had children not already been in their classes at St Peter’s Junior School at the height of the storm this morning when a large, mature tree was felled by the high winds and blocked the entrance. It also caused significant damage to a neighbouring property on Ashworth Avenue. (Photos courtesy of @StPetersRud).
Nottinghamshire County Council staff were called to the site along with Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service who worked into the evening to clear the debris. Meantime an alternative exit via Devon Drive was used for the children and staff to leave safely at the end of the school day.
Ten year old pupil Jamie Newton told The Nottingham Post: “It was an unusual way to leave school today but everyone was calm and the staff made sure we were safe. It was very nice of the people to allow us out through their gardens.”
